Steam Valley's Hand-dyed yarn is dyed in 2 pound dye lots using fiber reactive dyes. Our yarn is all one-of-a-kind and very unique. Our colorways are not standardized, but we do record the dye lots. The dye combinations of the dye lots can be repeated, but the color blending of each dye pot will be different than the original. When selecting colors, order all that you need to complete your project because even the recorded dye lots can not be perfectly repeated.

We often dye various types of yarn in one dyelot.
For example: 1 skein of Boucle, 1 skein of Brushed Mohair and 8 skeins of Mohair/Merino yarn all in one dyepot. If you are looking for matching colors in different yarn types, let us know what you are seeking.

Our colorways and yarn varieties frequently change. If you happen to contact us shortly before a show, there will be the greatest variety. If you order after we have just returned from a major show, our inventory may be depleted. So please call or email, prior to placing a yarn order!

Natural Colored Mohair Yarn from our Angora Goats

Naturally Colored Mohair from our Angora Goats was washed at the farm and blended with Border Leicester wool. It was spun into a 2 ply worsted weight yarn at Loch's Maple Fiber Mill in Pennsylvania. Yardage varies by color as the different colors effected the density of the yarn.

Our Angora Goats are fed certified organic grain, local hay, pasture and minerals. They are raised sustainably and most health concerns are treated homeopathically by my husband who is a Naturopathic Physician. All the goats are named. Those contributing their fleeces for our yarn, are named for each color.

This yarn knits up beautifully on a size 8 or 9 needle. Perfect for scarves, shawls and sweaters. There is enough wool to maintain elasticity and plenty of Mohair for luster.
